Together, Robert Affinis and Susan Courtney created The Godless Kind to be a digital sanctuary for deconstructionists, freethinkers, and those navigating life after faith. Their goal is to build something lasting—a hub for resources, conversations, merchandise, podcasts, and support for people choosing humanity over hierarchy. Whether you’re deconstructing, newly deconverted or years into your journey, this is a place where your story belongs.
Robert Affinis
Robert is a speaker, abolitionist, writer, a true leader in the secular humanist space and host of the podcast Heretical Whispers.
With a background in psychology and a deep commitment to justice, Rob dismantles the narratives that keep people trapped in cycles of spiritual and social oppression.
A former believer himself, he now focuses on creating communities centered around truth, equity, and secular ethics.
Rob is the founder of Robert Affinis (formerly Affinis Humanity) a nonprofit that promotes inclusion and critical thought through education and advocacy.
Susan Courtney
Susan is a secular humanist, life coach, writer, and marketing strategist who walked away from evangelicalism after a lifetime of devotion—and found more humanity on the other side.
As a Southern woman and former minister, she brings fire and clarity to every conversation. She writes about religious trauma, empowerment, and decolonizing the sacred.
She’s the creator behind Growth Through Deconstruction and the poetic voice of a movement that believes in critical thinking and compassion.
